Becoming “The Startup Fortress” of Europe is an ambitious objective for Alba Iulia.
Named “the other capital”, Alba Iulia is a city whose positioning has always been boldly built in opposition to Bucharest, the actual capital of the country. Alba is small, cheeky, a pioneer in city marketing as well as smart city technologies, and a leader in attracting EU funds. All the things that Bucharest is not good at. “The Other Capital” was a strategic positioning statement that helped Alba Iulia become an interesting alternative to Bucharest. It is time to be an alternative to Bucharest for startup founders, not just for tourists.
The city aims to move to the next stage and start attracting startup founders from Romania, neighboring countries, as well as from Northern Europe. The city offers a good quality of life, a wonderful fortress that can host startup hubs, 1% taxes for startups, hiring people is 50% cheaper and costs of living are also 50% cheaper compared to Northern Europe, which gives startups a longer runway, and the city has a university that can fuel the startups with 100 programmers and thousands of graduates.
